CLT - Ashwell Community Land Trust

This is a Community Benefit Society that was set up by the Parish Council in line with the Localism Act 2011. This legislation provides the basis for local councils or community groups to do things for a commercial purpose that are of community benefit such as a local shop, a village pub, affordable housing or an open space.
In April 2022 the Parish Council agreed to progress the formation of a Community Benefit Society for Ashwell so that should the need arise the framework was already established.
Over a period of some months advice was taken from a solicitor and the matter discussed at Parish Council meetings. In October 2022 the CLT was registered with the FCA and in February 2023 a bank account was set up. Meetings of the founder directors took place in November 2022, February 2023, March 2023 and January 2024.
The CLT was subsequently launched and £1 shares issued to Members.

There are currently three Directors; two parish councillors (the Chair and Vice-Chair) and one parishioner. The Clerk to the Parish Council acts as the Secretary to the CLT.
