Volunteers wanted to support a new Ashwell Community Hub – caring for vulnerable and socially isolated residents

Dear Ashwell friend,

I am writing to ask you if you would like to volunteer to be an Ashwell compassionate neighbour and be part of an exciting local collaborative project that cares for the most vulnerable and socially isolated residents in Ashwell and surrounding villages. This initiative is organised by Ashwell Church, Ashwell Parish Council and Ashwell and Bassingbourn Surgery. Please also forward this email to anyone you think may be interested.

This project is led by the Garden House Hospice (GHH), as part of an outreach community programme that has already set up more than ten community well-being Hubs in North Hertfordshire. The Hubs are run by compassionate neighbours for the benefit of community ‘Members’. The Hubs provide participation in an exercise group, an opportunity for conversation, and to join in creative and fun activities, promoting health and well-being, enabling individuals to feel more in control and to live life to its fullest potential.

GHH offers help with setting up the Hubs and training the volunteers. Compassionate Neighbour volunteers will be invited to support one hub per month for 3 hours on a Thursday afternoon. The Ashwell Hub will take place in the URC Hall on Thursday afternoons in the New Year.

Sometimes community Members require a regular home visit, rather than joining in the Hub. GHH matches them with a Compassionate Neighbour. The commitment of volunteers for a home visit to a community Member is approximately one to two hours per week.

If you are interested please do have a look at more detail on the website: https://www.ghhospicecare.org.uk/community-hubs

If you would like to be a volunteer, please do complete the volunteer form (in the box which asks for any additional information, please put in ASHWELL) https://www.ghhospicecare.org.uk/compassionate-neighbours .

If you would like any more information, please do contact Ruth tenHove directly. Email: ruthtenhove1@gmail.com

We do hope you would like to be part of this important local work.

Best wishes
