Ashwell Village Trust

The Cottage Garden in Swan Street is owned by a charity, the Ashwell Village Trust, and is kept looking good by a loyal band of volunteers.

In 1968 the village raised funds to save the garden, created by villager Albert Skerman on derelict land next to his cottage, as it was threatened with development. In 1986 another threat to its future was averted and the charity was set up to preserve and administer the garden.

The charity deed was written so that the trust could also take on other land or buildings if the situation arose. Details can be seen on the Charity Commission website.
