Bags of Kindness - Community & People Wellbeing HCC
As we approach winter, we are thrilled to tell you about the launch of our annual winter ‘Bags of Kindness’ project, created in partnership with Small Acts of Kindness and Herts County Council’s Herts Help. An army of volunteers are starting to pack the reusable tote bags, which will be ready for collection from Watford towards the end of November in readiness for distribution in the lead up to seasonal holidays.
We need your help again this year to make sure that these bags get to the people who need them the most , and to bring a smile to anyone you may know who is feeling lonely or at risk . We are asking you to help us bring some kindness to older people, those living with a disability, those who are recently bereaved or anyone who may be caring for someone who has a care need.
Small Acts of Kindness’s film shows just how valuable these bags can be, and what a difference they can make to people living in Hertfordshire: 'A SMALL ACT' - YouTube
We will have 2,500 Bags of Kindness ready for you/your group to collect and distribute. Each bag will contain helpful information and advice in leaflet form including useful contact numbers; some practical items such as socks and blankets to keep people warm over winter; some treats, such as chocolates, instant soup and sachets of hot chocolate; as well as items to provide some light entertainment, such as adult activity books. We hope that the information packs might help the recipients to break out of a cycle of feeling cold, isolated or lonely.
These bags are always extremely popular and always well received. I’m emailing you to see if your organisation or any groups you work with would like a share of the Bags of Kindness to distribute to anyone who you may think is in need.
If you would like an allocation of bags, then I will need to know a few details please:
Your name:
Name of the organisation/ group (if you are able to collect an allocation on behalf of other groups please specify)
Email address:
How many bags of Kindness you would like (multiples of 5 please).
Contact phone number:
Contact name if different from above:
Area/village/town/district bags will be distributed:
We are mindful that there are different dietary requirements , please note that all edible contents are vegetarian and the chocolates are vegan. I’m afraid that we are unable to cater for any other specific dietary requests . Can we therefore please ask that any item in the bag which is not wanted or that are not suitable for a particular individual are ‘re-gifted’, by the recipient, to someone else?
HCC will coordinate your requests and liaise with Small Acts of Kindness on your behalf. Once we’ve confirmed that the bags are ready to be collected :-
You will need to make arrangements (via tracy.webber@hertfordshire.gov.uk) for a named contact to collect the bags from :
Small Acts of Kindness
Unit 1 Orient Centre
Greycaine Road
Watford WD24 7GP
You will need to confirm a date and time for collection in advance. (Collections are by prior arrangement only).
You will need to provide tracy.webber@hertfordshire.gov.uk with contact details including a named contact and a mobile number so that SAOK can contact you if you do not manage to collect at the agreed time.
Please noteYou/your organisation will need to organise for the delivery of the bags once you are in receipt of your allocated batch.
Allocation of bags will be on a first come, first serve basis, and your requests should be based on a realistic number ( i.e. identified number of individuals who are elderly, clinically vulnerable, have mental health problems, recently bereaved , feeling isolated or living alone).
Please email tracy.webber@hertfordshire.gov.uk if you have any additional questions and feel free to share this email with any community groups/charitable organisations who might also be interested.
