Note from Affinity Water

Affinity Water will be starting work to carry out essential network improvements to the water mains along Ashwell Road and Church Lane, Bygrave (SG7).

The upcoming work will be carried out Monday to Friday, 8am – 6pm, Saturday, 8am – 2pm. Dates are subject to change.

Please see below for more details:

  • Church Lane: Monday 13th October – Monday 15th December 25

Work starts in Church Lane, from Parkwood Lodge to the junction of Ashwell Road. We’ll need to close the road, but to ensure resident access is maintained, this will be done in two stages.

  • Ashwell Road: Friday 24th October – Wednesday 19th November 25

We also need to complete work in Ashwell Road, from the junction of Church Lane Road to approx. No. 67 Ashwell Road.

We’ll need to close the road to complete the work safely. A suitable diversion route will be in place, but you may need to allow for a little extra time on journeys.

Come along to the Knife Angel opening ceremony

Hertfordshire Constabulary and Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council are delighted to invite the public to the opening ceremony of the Knife Angel when it arrives in Welwyn Garden City next week.

The Knife Angel is a 27-foot sculpture crafted from more than 100,000 knives and blades confiscated by the UK's 43 police forces. It regularly travels around the country and was designed and created by Alfie Bradley at the British Ironwork Centre.

The sculpture aims to raise awareness about the consequences of knife crime and violence and to spark conversations about the need for social change and peace.

An opening ceremony will take place in Howardsgate on Wednesday 1 October at 5.30pm.

To find out more about the Knife Angel and view the calendar of events to get involved with, visit herts.police.uk/knifeangel. You can also sign up to become an Anti-Violence Champion.

Rural Team Hare Coursing Reports

Unfortunately, at this time of year we see reports of illegal hare coursing reported around the county, specifically Baldock, Ashwell, Tring and Kelshall. With assistance from our colleagues in bordering forces such as Cambridgeshire, Essex, Bedfordshire and Thames Valley we have been attending but we want to remind everyone what to look out for:

Tips to prevent hare coursing and poaching:

· Remain vigilant in rural locations and report any suspicious activity in the area. This may include 4x4 vehicles or vans parked in remote rural location at the roadside of fields.

· Report groups of people seen with multiple dogs walking across cropped fields.

· Report locations using What Three Words App (W3W). (Can also be used on a web browser what3words /// The simplest way to talk about location)

Last week we followed up on an overnight hare coursing incident in Rural Tring and located an abandoned dog suspected to belong to the offenders. He was not microchipped and therefore taken into Police possession and handed over to the local authority whereby efforts are now underway to rehome him.
