Ashwell needs more Parish Councillors - Why?
The Government’s decision to replace District Councils by larger Unitary Authorities in 2027 will make Parish Councils even more important for ensuring local views and needs are:
- Reflected in how our own dedicated expenditure budget is created & managed.
- Communicated to the next layer of Government that will be less ‘local’ than now.
Ashwell Parish Council is pursuing projects that a Unitary Authority would be unlikely to:
- Upgrade / renewal the Pavilion on the Reco Upgrade / renewal of the Playground on the Rec
- Zero Carbon Ashwell initiative to reduce Ashwell’s reliance on CO2 generating gas and oil for heating, hot water and cars
- Maintenance of St Mary’s Churchyard, St Mary’s Clock, Rec Grounds, Cemetery, Springs etc
- Funding & creation of the annual Ashwell Yearbook
- Reflect local views on housing, speeding, maintenance of Ashwell services by the District or County Councils
- Neighbourhood Plan development & updates
Ashwell Parish Council is short of Councillors due to ageing and illnesses. BUT we can appoint new Councillors during the next 12+ months before the next formal Parish Council Election in May 2027. So why not try becoming a Councillor NOW?
