The PTA is made up of parents and teachers who raise money to help provide extra materials and equipment needed to enrich the provision for the pupils at Ashwell Primary School. The PTA provides a useful link between parents and the school and provides an opportunity for parents to become more actively involved in the life of the school, the community and the education of their children.
The PTA is proud of its community involvement and actively contributes to village life, organising and running a number of traditional events such as Fireworks Night, Burns Night and the Village Quiz. The PTA is also involved with the biggest village events such as Ashwell at Home and the Ashwell Show.
January 2017 saw the arrival of the new head teacher, Simon England, who came on board with much gusto and enthusiasm. We threw him in at the deep end with our traditional Burns Night Supper at the school. This turned out to be a fantastic evening with a live band and much merriment around the dance floor.
The village all turned out again to the Village Quiz hosted by Mr England Senior. A big thank you to Mr England and to everyone who came. It was a brilliant evening, with plenty of laughter and we managed to raise a lot of money for the school.
Ashwell At Home was another huge success. We were proud to support the event and thank you to everyone for those delicious quiches. We provided wonderful buffet lunches and tea and cake throughout the day.
Throughout the year the children enjoyed their favourite events too. The School Disco was great fun and shopping for presents at the Mother’s and Father’s Day Stalls provided a lovely chance for the children to pick out a special gift for Mummy and Daddy.
In the summer the PTA put on a brand new event - THE SIZZLING SUMMER BONANZA, involving lots of stalls, a bar and BBQ serving delicious Crumps burgers and sausages, and a superb live band. The highlight was Mr. England in the stocks with children queueing round the block for a chance to soak him. It was also a chance to show off the new meadow and listen to live music in the new pavilion. Great weather, a good turn out and some fabulous stalls from the year 6 pupils. Well done to all.
We finished the year with another very successful Fireworks Night, where a huge crowd enjoyed a brilliant display.
We are very grateful for the commitment of the parents and teachers on the PTA committee. Although it’s hard work at times, we do have fun and get so much from being able to organise events that everyone enjoys and that benefit the school so much. The committee thanks all the parents and carers who spare as much time as they can, bake cakes or come along and enjoy the events.
We are also very thankful to all in the wider community who support us. We’re always keen to hear suggestions and ideas for new events. Please join us if you can; you’ll be sure of a warm welcome.
