This year has seen another very busy year at Play- group with lots of children from the village and further afield coming to join in the fun. By the New Year we were already open five days a week.
On Thursdays we started a session that was called “Get- ting School Ready”. This was to help our older children that would be moving up to Nursery to become more independent with their personal skills but also to develop their letter recognition.
New activities we also offered were that on Tuesday afternoon we went up to our allotment on Back Street, to grow some vegetables and herbs. The children had lots of fun walking through the village, swinging their buckets and spades and singing. They worked really hard weeding, planting and watering our cabbages and sprouts. Unfortunately, even though we covered them, our plants proved too yummy for the local deer and rabbits and we didn’t get to taste the fruits of our labours.
Another activity on offer on during the week was a yoga session with Laura. The children absolutely loved this session and very actively engaged with all the learnt positions and mantras. The children would often recite them to their parents at home.
One of our parents very kindly came in each week to teach the children French through the medium of song. The children became so confident that they sang the songs for their parents at the end of term concert.
Our end of year trip was something new this year. We went to Linton Zoo by coach. We had a lovely time looking at the lions and tigers before all coming together to have a picnic lunch.
One thing that has changed is how the activity planning is done. Before we were very adult led; now after some research we now follow the IN THE MOMENT PLANNING. This means that each day the activities on offer are 98% child led. The children love it and so do the staff. If you want anymore in- formation about it please contact me.
Well, here’s to another exciting year at Ashwell Playgroup.
