Ashwell Baby and Toddler Group and Messy Play

We’ve had another busy and fun- filled year at Ashwell Baby and Toddler & Messy Play Groups this year. The children have enjoyed playing, singing, and getting messy, whilst the mums, dads and carers have managed to drink more than 1,000 cups of coffee.

There has been a baby and toddler group in the village for more than 40 years, and the Ashwell Baby and Toddler & Messy Play Groups are still going strong. Each week we welcome new faces and have lots of fun, providing a valuable sup- port network for those raising young families. The groups are drop-in sessions and there’s no need to book – we’d love to see you there so do come along if you’ve got a baby or pre- schooler.

The groups are run by a committee of volunteers who work behind the scenes to run the sessions, clean the baby and toddler toys on a regular basis, and keep the craft cupboards and craft ideas flowing.

Baby and Toddler Group:
Wednesdays (term-time) from 9:45am – 11:00am, URC Hall, £1.50

This fun and friendly weekly group for babies through to pre- schoolers offers different toys each week: from cooking up a storm in the play kitchen; to splashing about in the ball pit; to enjoying the toy farm. And for babies, there is a quiet, safe play area with colourful toys, and a space for mums to feed their little ones. At the end of the session we provide a healthy snack while the children listen to a story and all join in with some songs.

Messy Play:
Thursdays (term-time) from 9:45am – 11:00am, URC Hall, £1.50

Messy Play is a wonderful way for pre-schoolers to let their creative sides loose and explore their senses by painting, moulding, splashing, and generally getting messy. This year we have enjoyed washing and looking after our ‘babies’, making Elmer the Elephants, and playing with foam, slime and goo! For babies there is a safe play area with toys to keep them amused, and at the end of each session a healthy snack is provided and we all sit around for a (sometimes noisy) singsong.

If you have a baby or pre-schooler who would enjoy the chance to play, sing and maybe even get a little bit messy, please do come along to our groups – everyone is welcome. And if you think you can help in any way with fundraising, toy- cleaning, providing the children’s snack, or helping to set up the group then do get in touch – the committee would love any assistance you can offer.
